A Life Less Ordinary

He was an ordinary man
He lived an ordinary life
A life devoid of any risk
And lacking any colour
Trims his moustache, combs his hair
Looks in the mirror…no one’s there
Dons the tweed suit lying there
Before heading down the high street

He was an ordinary man
He lived a neat and ordered life
Each day passing without fuss
Each day like every other
Reads his paper, sips his tea
Fills out the crossword patiently
Dreams of things that cannot be
Gently sighs… Where does the time fly?

Chorus:
There was a time in younger days
When skies were blue, not shades of grey
When passions stirred with things to say
And he … He less wary
To risk love with its extremes
To take a chance, live out his dreams
Of a life … Of a life
Less ordinary

He was an ordinary man
He lived an ordinary lie
A lie empty without life
Just going through the motions
Dusts the mantle, sweeps the hall
Stares at her portrait on the wall
It’s been ten years… come this fall
Some time soon he hopes he’ll join her.

Chorus:
There was a time in younger days
When skies were blue, not shades of grey
When passions stirred with things to say
And he … He less wary
To risk love with its extremes
To take a chance, live out his dreams
Of a life … Of a life
Less ordinary

He was an ordinary man
He lived a neat and ordered life
Each day passing without fuss
Each day like every other
