Summertime

My love wore a summer dress
Diaphanous
Playful pastel prints,
Seashells and sailing ships
riding up over hips
Swirling in the breeze
Suntanned and tousled,
Barefoot and brazen
A force of nature
She was amazing
Every step a tease.

We basked in the summer sun
Till we were done
Cotton candy smiles
Popcorn and Tastee Freez
Taffy hands dirty knees
covered in white sand
Cruising the boardwalk
Arcades and sideshows
Lost in the moment
Open mouthed eyes closed
Swaying to the band.

Chorus:
Summertime, Summertime
Your hand in mine
Fingers intertwined
Where do you end, and I begin?
Our love was like summer wine
Sweet intoxicating
Summertime so sublime
Don’t let this feeling end
Summertime

Too short the summer lasts
Too soon it’s past
Lazy carefree days
Bonfires and balmy nights
Shooting stars harbour lights
Sparkle on the bay
Tumbling and fumbling
Awkward and eager
Holding on so tight
Darker days draw nearer
Autumn’s on its’ way.

Chorus:
Summertime
Summertime
Your hand in mine
Fingers intertwined
Where do you end, and I begin?
Our love was like summer wine
Sweet intoxicating
Summertime so sublime
Don’t let this feeling end
Summertime

Bridge:
Summers end, Not even friends
Passions cool, close to freezing
Fragile hearts bruised, battered, broken
All boarded up …Closed for the season

Chorus:
Summertime
Summertime
Your hand in mine
Fingers intertwined
Where do you end, and I begin?
Our love was like summer wine
Sweet intoxicating
Summertime so sublime
Don’t let this feeling end
Summertime
Don’t let this feeling… end
