Words Are Weapons

It was subtle at first
A little dig , a little poke
A little joke … at my expense
Well I laughed till I stopped
When at last the penny dropped
It all made sense
Your stand up routine
It’s cruel and it’s mean
The opening shots of an uncivil war
I wish I could smile
But my lips fail me
The joke’s not funny … any more

Chorus:
You think you’re funny … don’t make me laugh
Some kind of wit? …honey you’re only half
Words are weapons
Words are weapons
Words are weapons in this war

It was clever at first
A little crack , a little sledge
A little edge … slipped in word wise
Well I winced, bit my lip
Yet one more sad stupid quip
Cuts me down to size
You’re too close to home
Too close to the bone
One more salvo in this uncivil war
I wish I could smile
But your words wound me
I don’t love you … any more

Chorus:
You think you’re funny … don’t make me laugh
Some kind of wit? … honey you’re only half
Words are weapons
Words are weapons
Words are weapons in this war

Bridge:
Now I’ve suffered in silence
Sitting on the fence is a pain in the ass
You want to call a truce
Step back from the brink?
Karma’s a bitch honey, I think I’ll pass

Chorus:
You think you’re funny … don’t make me laugh
Some kind of wit honey? … you’re ha ha half
Words are weapons
Words are weapons
Words are weapons in this war

Words are weapons
Bring in the tanks
Take your best shot
You’re firing blanks
Words are weapons
Words are weapons
Words are weapons in this war
Words are weapons
Words are weapons
Words are weapons in this war
